FALL 2014 TRIP LIST!

While going back to school is always a little rough, we’re hoping that this lineup of awesome trips will help soften the blow… This fall we’re bringing you an awesome mix of old and new, with a large selection of trips that the Club’s either never done, or hasn’t done in a very long time.

So, read through it, mark your calendars, get excited, and we’ll see you soon! Per usual, if you have any questions, let us know! We’d be happy to answer them.

And here it is…

9.13

Freshman Boulder

image

Calling all Freshmen! This one’s for you… Join us at Thrillseekers Climbing gym for a day of bouldering, mingling and getting stoked for an awesome fall with DUAC. No experience climbing? No worries! We’ll hook you up with the gear and the basics, all you have to do is show up.

9.14

14er

image

There are 54 peaks over 14,000ft in Colorado… If you’ve got your sites set on summiting all 54, we can help you out with at least one. While the 14er that’ll be climbed is TBD what has been determined, is that this trip will be a blast.

9.19-9.21

Crested Butte Bike and Hike

image

Crested Butte has long been a winter quarter Alpine Club classic. This year, we’re mixing it up and heading down to CB for a totally different trip experience. While there might not be saunas and skiing, there will be campfires under the stars, world class mountain biking, and incredible hiking.

9.27

Day Climb

image

Climb time. Colorado is a climbing mecca, and whether you’ve been sending for years or are just trying to dip a toe into the whole climbing experience, this trip is a DUAC staple and member favorite. Join us for a day of climbing at one of the many crags around Denver. No gear? No experience? No problem, we’ll hook you up. Tons of gear? Tons of experience? Bring it, we’ve got something for everyone.

9.28

Day Bike

image

Looking to get out and ride some of Colorado’s amazing mountain biking trails? Perfect… so are we. Come out for an awesome day of riding on some beautiful trails. While you do have to bring your own bike, we’ll provide transportation, entertainment, and an epic day in the mountains.

10.3-10.5

Sinks Canyon/Lander Multisport

image

The Alpine Club hasn’t made the pilgrimage to Sinks Canyon and the outdoor mecca of Lander WYO in a coon’s age, so this fall we’re bringing it back. Two days of world famous climbing (this is the home of the International Climbers’ Festival), equally insane mountain biking, and hiking in the-oh so unique Sinks Canyon State Park. Hiking, biking, climbing, laughing and general DUAC shenanigans in the state whose slogan in “Like No Place on Earth?” What more could you ask for…

10.10-10.11

Shelf Road

image

This one night, one day trip is a new take and an old favorite. We’ll leave campus Friday afternoon, spend Friday night sitting around a campfire having a great time, and spend all of Saturday climbing at the amazing crags of Shelf Road, before heading back to campus Saturday night. All this, and you’ll still have Sunday to do whatever you want with!

10.17-10.18

Moab Backpacking

image

This year we’ve decided to combine two of our favorite trips, backpacking and Moab, into one ultimate weekend. So, with that we bring you Backpacking, in Moab! The route is yet to be determined, but we’re sure that it will be packed full of geologic amazingness, gourmet backcountry meals, and oh so much more.

Alrighty guys… There it is! Can’t wait to see you all out there

Cheers,

Your friends at DUAC

Fall Epic Pass Sales

It may be August, but the high country has already seen its first snowfall of the season, and that means it’s time to start thinking about WINTER!

Once again, the Alpine Club will be selling Epic Passes on campus. During new student orientation and throughout the first few weeks of Fall Quarter, we will be on campus selling the best season pass in the biz. The Epic Pass gives you access to the best resorts within 100 miles of Denver.

  • Vail
  • Beaver Creek
  • Breckenridge
  • Keystone
  • Arapahoe Basin

Additionally, the pass includes access to resorts in Utah, California, Japan, and Europe! For more details, visit the Epic Pass website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which pass is most popular with DU Students?

A: The Epic Local Pass. It is the best value, and by buying through the Alpine Club, you will get the College Discount — not available through other outlets!

Q: How much will the pass cost me?

A: The Epic Local is $549 as of 8/29/2014. This is the “Guaranteed lowest price only through 9/1.” With the College Discount, the pass is just $499.

Q: When and where will you be selling the passes?

A: Passes will be sold 8/31, 9/1, and 9/2 from 10 am - close (likely 3 pm, depending on how busy we are). We will be selling on Discroll Green, in front of Sturm Hall. Look for the big Flylow Tent. Passes will be sold on campus periodically throughout the first few weeks of fall quarter. Additionally, passes are available at any time from an Alpine Club officer.

We had an awesome couple of days in New Mexico last weekend! Here’s a quick recap of the trip:

There was biking, there was climbing, there was green chili.  We just returned from another great weekend romping around White Rock, New Mexico.  After full days of weaving through the trees and scaling up rocks, finding a hot spring off in the woods felt that much better. Having 80 degree weather with sun didn’t hurt too.

Don’t forget that this Wednesday we have signups for our last trip of the year: a 14er! Also make sure to sign up your team for our upcoming epic volleyball tournament! Check out the event page on Facebook for more info.
